"Thank you for all you have done!  You have made our trip such a pleasure."  August 2009

Itinerary:
Arrived on the 8:00 AM ferry, stored backbacks for the day ($2 each - great deal) and started to explore. Camped
4 nights at Ft. Abercrombie and 2 nights at B&B. Drove the road system, ate breakfast at King's Diner, shopped the souvenir stores and went on a dig for Alutiiq Museum. Found Mary as our lifeline to every-thing! Again, thank you.

A mix of rain and sunshine didn't stop me from finding the self-guiding hiking trails on Near Island and Pyramid Mountain; and when it was wet and cold, I found the museums: Alutiiq, Baranov and Wildlife Refuge Center very informative.  Mary suggested a few gift shops and found a great t-shirt at The Kodiak Company.  "...she went beyond her job expectations and made my stay a pleasant one."

Thanks Mary for all your help!

After searching for an apartment in which to live, Mary finally found me a
1-bedroom in a great location.

We enjoyed our personal tour of Kodiak.  You really knew your 'stuff'. After building a successful fishing boat charter and offering excursions on the west coast of Florida, it was interesting to draw comparisons with fellow captains here.  Thank you again for everything.

We couldn't believe it!  Our visit to Kodiak was cancelled when bad weather set in.  Thus the city tour we planned (for months)  with Mary was also cancelled.  After emailing Mary our next
stop would be a small, remote town of Hoonah, Mary went to work and found us Phil Jones of Brown Bear Excursions. What a hoot! Met at the pier, Phil provided an extensive all-day tour complete with history, scenery, wildlife and brown bears! Thank you Mary for making the effort to save this portion of the cruise. We are booking another Alaskan Southwest cruise with Princess Cruise Lines and trust our paths will meet in Kodiak for that city and harbor tour(s).

The weekend on Spruce Island to visit the village of Ouzinkie was wonderful. Herman Squartsoff (of Spruce Island Charters & Lodge) was a fabulous host.

The weather was both rainy and sunny, which was nice. We went for a skiff ride, got to pick wild mushrooms and herbs for the salmon we had for dinner. The goals for our trip were accomplished, we met with the students and they were all interested in the educational project - so that was great.

Thank you
so much for helping us get all this set up!

Hi Mary....I had an excellent time in Kodiak. What impressed me the most, other than the great BEARS, were the people. From the Harbour Master to the mates on the fishing boats~ they would talk with you about anything you asked them. And the Senior Center was great for a good lunch. Have a good day.                                                         Bill Splitter

Comment: Bill spent 9 days in Kodiak and took advantage of getting to know and experience the day-to-day activities of its residents.  He hitched a ride with some other guys and enjoyed my city tour and drive down to Bells Flats to view the salmon heading in to spawn.  I was also able to get him on a mail plane into the village of Akhiok.  Centrally located to downtown and overlooking the harbor, he also enjoyed the hospitality of Mary Monroe's Kodiak Bed & Breakfast and the walks with Mary and her dog Rosie.

Some people have a special gift for giving others a little lift!   You have a special gift for making others feel welcome. Thank you for all you did for me here in Kodiak.  You don't know how much this meant to me.

Geraldine and Frederic of Rueil France sent this postcard and a box of butter caramel candy from Brittany for Christmas.  They write: 'I'm not sure you will remember us.  We are the French couple who visited Kodiak in late August and carried with us a little stripped elephant named Bibilou whom we almost lost during our bike ride along the coast.  You kept our luggage for the day, showed us where we could camp at a nearby park and gave us your cell phone for the 'wake-up call' at 3:00 AM so that we could catch the ferry.  Although its taken us a long time to write, we haven't forgotten you and your warm hospitality.  Mercí.
